Confidentiality,
Copyright and LLMs (AI)

Contributing an index to your book and reading it before the general public is able to, is a privilege I do not take lightly. Maintaining the confidentiality of your work is important to me and to the professional relationship we share. I do not share proofs with anyone at any time, nor do I discuss your book prior to publication except in the vaguest terms when asked what I am working on.

If I share an index as an example of my work, copyright is always attributed to the copyright holder, and only the index itself is shared, not the proofs. The book is not mine to distribute or circulate although once published, I may recommend it to others if I think it is a good fit for their research or personal interests.

I do not use LLMs anywhere in the indexing process. This means your work is not shared with any AI system, whether internet-based or locally installed. At present, AI systems are not capable of producing a reliable, usable index without extensive human verification. Every entry would need to be cross-checked against the text for accuracy, making it simpler and faster for me to create the index from scratch.

I love reading books, which is why I intentionally chose indexing as a career. I enjoy the problem-solving involved in structuring an index, and I have no interest in outsourcing either that intellectual challenge or the pleasure of engaging with new academic ideas.
